Types of CV
There are two main types of CV templates used by job seekers when writing their CVs, these are: the Functional CV and the Reverse Chronological Order CV.
The Functional CV
Functional CVs are usually pretty short in length and cover your career history. They mainly focus on your skills, abilities and expertise. Some functional CVs may not mention a specific industry, this is because your skills are seen as transferable.
Reverse Chronological CV
Reverse Chronological Order CVs detail your career history in reverse chronological order (your most recent employment detailed first and working backwards). Your complete career history is detailed with a complete education and training record. This type of CV is seen as the most frequently used CV.
At CVSafe we use the reverse chronological order CV template style when creating CV's, as we believe most employers tend to prefer this style of CV format. This may be due to the fact that the reverse chronological order CV format lists history starting with the most recent items first.
The first page of the reverse chronological order CV should highlight your most recent role and this should be evident to the reader at a glance. Remember, when writing your CV, you only have approximately 30 seconds to impress a potential employer reading your CV, so you need to make sure you get all of your strong points across as early as possible.
